Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a restful, relaxing, and fun spring break.
This next week the students will have an English test on Tuesday, the third-graders will have a math test on Thursday, and the usual spelling test will be on Friday.
This next week we will set our Science book aside for a bit, and the students will work on a series of learning centers/labs that will make use of the simple machines. During this time, the students will receive a better appreciation of how those simple machines can make work easier by reducing the amount of needed effort to perform tasks.
Starting on Wednesday the students will join together in Reading class to enjoy a couple of novels together. The first novel that we will cover is Pocahontas and the Strangers. This is a great novel that explores what our country was like as settlers moved to this “new world” and the relationship that they had with the Native Americans that were already living here. This novel also ties in nicely to what we are studying in Social Studies this year.
