April 23-26

As we go in the heart and soul of Holy Week, I pray that your family finds the peace and joy that comes with the empty tomb.

Next week, when we come back to school on Tuesday, many of the students will be starting a new novel.  We will be reading Little House in the Big Woods.  Along with this we will also be doing something different that will be new for the 3rd graders.  Instead of having questions to answer, the students will do literature circle discussions.  Each student will have a specific job that they will have to prepare for the assigned reading.  Then, the next school day they will participate in a student-led group discussions sharing the work that they did.  Some students will be in charge of finding new vocabulary terms, writing discussion questions, making connections and so on.  This is a lot of work, but the students do enjoy it greatly every year!

On Tuesday the fourth-graders will have a math test, the chapter 6 science test will be on Thursday, and the usual spelling test will be on Friday.

After Easter, your students will be coming home with a permission slip for our next field trip to New Ulm.  Since the play that we will be viewing will take place at 11:00, we will be stopping to eat on the way home.  Please make sure you fill out the permission slip and return it by the deadline since we will need to coordinate the lunch details ahead of time.
