May 28-30

Only one partial week of school left!  In some ways, it doesn’t feel like the school year is almost over since the weather seems to be stuck in a late April/early May pattern.

Assuming the weather cooperates, next Wednesday is our Trinity Track and Field day.  Please make sure your child is fully prepared by having good shoes and clothes for running, water bottles, cold lunch, and are wearing their team’s color (or something similar).  Also, after the meet, students will be allowed to go home with any parents that are there. I would appreciate knowing before Wednesday if your child will NOT be returning to school on the bus and who is taking them home.

Each year, I try to send school supplies home early so that the students are not trying to take it all home in one trip.  Starting today, your child will be coming home with a few things, and I will keep sending things home as I determine that we won’t need them anymore. By next Tuesday, I will have sent home everything except a pen and or pencil to have for the last day of school.

Please note that all library books are due back today, Thursday, May 23.

Next week will be light on assignments as we finish things up.  There will still be religion and memory work lessons.  We will also have two more map tests next week as well for S.S.  In addition to that; we will have the end of the year math and English test.  These are not graded, but rather are the same tests that we did at the beginning of the year.  It is always fun to show the students how much they have learned since September.

Today your child will come home with a couple of extra packets.  One packet has some math fact practice sheet. The other packet is full of challenge puzzles.  Both of these are intended to be resources for you to use during the summer months.  I would like to strongly encourage students to keep reading all summer, keep logging into ixl for Math and Language Arts, and keep their brains active with a variety of activities.  The students that stay mentally active have a much easier time transitioning back to school in the fall and lose less of the academic knowledge that they gained the prior year.  One study found that students can lose two months of reading skills and 2.5 months of math skill during the summer when they don’t remain active with those skills.

Here are some important dates for your calendar.
