Next week the students will be taking the first 2 tests that are part of the NWEA MAP testing program. On Tuesday, they will complete the Math test, and on Thursday, they will complete the Reading test. Then, the following week they will take the English grammar and Science test. These tests are designed to challenge the students to the point where they get 50% of the questions correct. By doing this, they can more accurately report how much the students know and what specific skills need more attention. There is nothing that you can do to prepare for these tests at home other than ensuring your child is getting a full night’s rest and starting their day with a healthy breakfast.
In addition to these tests, the third-graders will have a math test on Wednesday, everyone will take the chapter 3 Science test, the fourth-graders will have a math test on Friday, and the usual spelling test will be Friday as well. The best way to study for the Science test is to use the corrected review assignment. All questions on the review will also be on the test just in a slightly different form. For example, fill in the blank questions might be multiple choice. Also, please note that all essay style questions do not change from the review to the test.
Yesterday, Wednesday, all students came home with a salmon-colored packet with information about cross country. If your child is planning on running, please return that to school today!
Don’t forget, this Friday starts the new hot lunch schedule, so many of you will have two days off from prepping lunches.
The picture order form went home earlier this week. If you did not get one, there are more at school that can be sent home.
The next Scholastic book order is coming home today. If you choose to order, please either order online using the class code “MWFG4” or by returning the order to school with an exact payment in cash or with a check made out to “Susan Van Houten.”
Finally, since today is the first day of October, students are allowed to wear shorts when the forecasted high for the day is 70 degrees or higher. Please keep checking the weather to ensure your child has enough outside clothes for before school care and morning recess.
