October 3-7

As September comes to a close and the cooler nighttime temperatures settle in, you may want to consider some layers for your child to ensure they are warm enough in the morning and not too warm as the day heats up. Remember that from October-April, students may wear shorts if the forecasted high for the day is 70 degrees or warmer.

Please note that the students will NOT have a science test this week. As the week went along, I realized they were not quite ready for success yet, so that test will now be next Wednesday.

Next week we will start the Fall round of NWEA testing. The students will complete four separate tests over the next two weeks. They will be assessed in math, reading, English grammar, and science. The NWEA test is designed to challenge the students to the point that they get about 50% of the questions correct. Every time a student answers correctly, they get a progressively harder question. If they answer incorrectly, then it gives them an easier question. Each test is genuinely individualized for each student. By doing it this way, the test can show exactly what they know and what they are ready to learn more about. How can you help your child prepare? The best things you can do is to make sure they get a good night’s rest, eat a healthy breakfast and encourage them to use their God-given gifts to their fullest.

In addition to the Science and NWEA tests, there will be a fifth-grade math test on Wednesday, a fourth-grade math test on Friday, and the usual spelling test will be on Friday.

Please note that I will be gone next Wednesday-Friday. I will be helping Crown of Life in West St. Paul with its accreditation process. If there are any last-minute messages that you need to get to your child, please call the office.
