October 1-5

Thank you for your continued patience as we work to restore our internet access at school. I know that there were last minute changes to our assignment plans as we deal with this minor inconvenience. Hopefully, everything will be in place for next week. When everything is back up and running again, I will let everyone know.  Until then, please keep calling the office with messages during the school day.  I have been logging into my email from home at night and once again before I leave home for the day.  However, I will not see any emails sent after 5:45 a.m.

This coming week we will be working on the NWEA testing.  Since these tests are untimed, I don’t always know exactly how much time to plan each day.  So, here again, we may have assignment changes as we adapt to the amount of time is spent on testing each day.

NWEA testing is different than other tests that we have used in the past.  These tests are designed to challenge each student at their level.  The questions will continue to get harder with each correct response that your student makes.  Then, once the student misses some questions, it backs off on the difficulty.  The students should be getting about half of the questions correct. This structure is what allows the test to identify the level that each student is currently achieving at and helps to identify growth more accurately each time we retest during the year.  These tests will be used a total of three times during the year. To help your child be successful on these tests, please make sure they have a full night’s sleep and eat a good, healthy breakfast each morning.

In addition to NWEA testing, there will also be the Chapter 1 science test on Wednesday.  Make sure to go over the written review with your student to help them prepare for this.  Also, the third-graders will have a math test on Thursday, and the fourth-graders will have a math test on Friday. Finally, on Friday the students will have their usual spelling test.

On Sunday the students will be singing in church.  Please have them come forward at the appropriate point of the service.
