This is the first of many weekly newsletters that you will receive from me. The purpose of these newsletters is to give you the highlights of the upcoming week, to provide you with a pdf of the anticipated assignments so you can look ahead, and to provide more details about things going on. All of these weekly newsletters and assignment pdfs will also be posted on my classroom page at https://school.trinitybelleplaine.org/grades-3-4/. Additionally, on that page, you will find links for spelling lists, the memory work packet, flashcards for practicing vocabulary words, and so on.
When you are looking at the assignment pdf, you will notice that I put the assignments into the table on the day that they are expected to be assigned. All assignments are due at the beginning of the next school day unless otherwise noted. So, if you look at this week’s pdf, you can see that on Wednesday, the 3rd graders will have the Reading assignment of answering the Chapter 1 questions from their novel, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Also, the 4th graders will have the Reading assignment of answering Chapter 2 questions from their novel, The Best School Year Ever. Both assignments are due at the start of the day Thursday. Then, if you look at the Religion assignment for Wednesday, you can see that all students will have p. 7 to do for Thursday, but the memory work of reciting the first third of the 2nd Article is not due until Friday.
Please remember that memory work can be recited before its due date. Also, this year I split up the articles into smaller chunks than in the past since it has been so long since we have had school in person. I color-coded those chunks so that it is clear where to start and stop.
On the first day of school, your child will come home with many different things. You can expect to find Scholastic Book Orders, a packet of all of the memory work for the school year, a packet with all spelling words for the school year, a ChristLight folder, a general letter about the 3rd and 4th grade school year, and so much more. Please make sure you sign the last page of the classroom letter and return that back to school as soon as possible. Also, find a good safe spot for the ChristLight folder at home. This will be a valuable resource if your child is sick or comes home with an assignment. After those 26 lessons have been studied, those folders will be returned to school, and a new folder will be sent home with the next set of lessons.
Since this is the first week of the school year, we will do our spelling pretest on Friday and the actual test on Monday the following week. Reminder, if your student gets all of the regular words correct (not counting the bonus word) on the pretest, then they do not need to do the test the next school day.
If you are choosing to order from this month’s Scholastic Book Order, please return those orders to school by Friday, September 11. Payments can be made in exact cash or made out to “Susan Van Houten.” Or, you can choose to order and pay online using the class code “MWFG4”.
Are you interested in buying some adult, Trinity apparel? You can go to https://www.companycasuals.com/TrinityLutheranSchool/start.jsp to view all of the options and to place your order. All orders need to be submitted by Wednesday, September 16. More details about payment will come once all orders have been placed.
