Trinity Newsletter October 5-9

This week sure feels like fall!  All of our favorite fall things are here; apple orchards, pumpkins, hot apple cider, warm cozy clothes, and fall testing. More about that later!

Cross Country update

We have coaches for cross country!  A big thank you to Denis Ahearn and Bruce Nielsen for helping guide our runners this year.  There will be a short meeting this Friday for all students interested in Cross Country at 3:15. If your child is unable to attend this meeting because they ride the bus, we will make sure to communicate the information from the meeting with your family.

Lifetouch Pictures

Lifetouch will start taking pictures at 9 a.m. this coming Wednesday.  Three-year-old preschool families may stop by any time in the morning to have their photo taken.  If you are unable to come on Wednesday, there will be a picture retake day.

The picture order form went home earlier this week.  If you did not get one, another one can be sent home with your child. Just reach out to their teacher to ask for one.

NWEA MAP Testing

Over the next two weeks, the third through eighth-grade students will be doing the NWEA MAP testing.  These tests are done on the students’ Chromebooks, are untimed, and are meant to measure what they know and what areas they are ready to learn more about.  This means that there is nothing they can do to prepare for these tests other than to get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy, balanced breakfast each morning.

 Bus Dismissal

After the start of the school year, Stier bus and the public school recognized the need to revise the end of the day pick up schedule. Students are now being picked up from Trinity at 3:05.  Even though bus students are being picked up early, we will still keep our official dismissal time at 3:12. The teachers find those extra 7 minutes to be valuable in maximizing student work time and helping all of the students to be organized for going home.

Basketball

All fourth through seventh grade students came home with a yellow hand out pertaining to basketball.  Please read it and return it to Mrs. Van Houten by Tuesday, October 6.  I am hoping that if we have enough interest, we can have 2 teams wearing our brand new uniforms! Also, I am looking for parents interested in coaching.  Please consider helping out as you are able.

Dress Code Reminder

With the calendar page flipping over to October, we would like to remind all the families that shorts and capris are only permitted to be worn during the months of October-April if the forecasted high of the day is 70 degrees or higher.  Please keep in mind that if your child attends Before School Care, they will be outside and that those morning temperatures can be chilly.

PTO Christmas Greens and Poinsettia Fundraiser is HERE!

Don’t forget about PTO’s first fundraiser.  All order forms are due back to Trinity by Friday, October 9,, 2020.  More details can be found on the fundraiser’s cover letter

Extra Cloth Masks

If your child needs more cloth masks, please feel free to contact Susan Van Houten (svanhouten@trinitybelleplaine.org) to request more.  We still have many free ones on hand.

Daily at-home Health Check

Please continue to check your child’s temperature before leaving for school to verify they do not have a fever of 100.4 degrees or more. (Do not medicate your child and send them.)

Also, please perform a visual check on your child for the following conditions:

  • Flushed Cheeks
  • Rapid Breathing/Difficulty Breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Extreme Fussiness
  • Runny Nose
  • Excessive Cough
  • Sneezing
  • Rash

Please note that students will be admitted into school if these symptoms are connected to a pre-existing condition or diagnosis not related to COVID (e.g., norovirus, strep throat) and are deemed safe by a health care provider.

Dropping Off

Just a reminder that any students that are dropped off before 8 a.m. will need to go to Before School Care and will be billed at the end of the month.  Also, if you are dropping off your child at 8:00 a.m. or later, please have your child use the main school entrance.  Only the students in Before School Care should use the doors closest to the playground.

Trinity Care

Remember, in order to help keep our students safe, families will need to preregister their child/ren at least 24 hours in advance. By doing so, this will help Trinity plan to have an appropriate amount of space for the students using Trinity Care. If your schedule is predictable, you can register your child/ren two weeks in advance by using the tabs at the bottom.  Additional directions are given in the Google spreadsheet.
