I hope everyone is enjoying their spring break so far. It really is odd to be in the school without the students.  The usual bells all of a sudden becoming startling, the silence is almost eerie, and the desks just look sad with their crates sitting on top.  Yup, I am ready for the students to return.

As we look forward, please note that the next Scholastic Book Order will be going home on Tuesday and are due back on Friday.  If you wish to order something and don’t want to place the online order yourself using the classroom code, please either send exact change or a check made out to Susan Van Houten.

Please note that after break reading class will look different.  We will finish the year off with all the students reading the same novels. In conjunction with these novels we will be doing literature circles.  During this time each student will be assigned their own task to prepare based on the assigned chapter(s). Then, the next day the students will gather in smaller groups and lead their own discussion on the reading assignment.

Finally, as you look at the assignment sheet you will notice that the 4th graders will have a math test on Wednesday and the 3rd graders will have a test on Thursday. One thing that you can do at home during the remainder of the break to help them stay sharp for these tests is to put those math fact cards to use.

Here are some important dates for your calendar.
