September 9-13

We are now two days into the new school year.  I am doing my best to ease the students back into the swing of things, and that will continue this next week as well.  However, we will be much closer to a regular pace.  Some students may see an increase in how much homework they are bringing home as they adjust back into school and their new grade levels.

This next week the students will have their Unit 1 spelling test on Monday and their first English test on Thursday. This will also be a big memory workweek as the students will be memorizing the whole Second Article of the Creed by Thursday.  It may not be a bad idea to start working on this over the weekend.  Many students learn memory work the best if they work on small chunks for 5-10 minutes at a time several times a day.  This allows the brain to learn a new chunk and then review it several times which helps to cement the memory work into long term memory.

Please remember that if you are choosing to order books from Scholastic that those orders are due Friday, September 6. If you are planning to order you can either order online or send the orders back to school with exact cash or a check made out to Susan Van Houten.

Don’t forget that our first field trip is fast approaching and the permission slips are due back on Friday, September 6.

Many permission slips for the field trip (blue sheet), and many back to school letter forms (tan packet) have come back already!  If you haven’t sent your signed sheets back to school yet, please do so ASAP.
